About IPL

Intense Pulsed Light Treatments

Kosmetae Clinic offers selected Intense Pulsed Light treatments, commonly known as IPL, for cosmetic skin concerns and long-term hair reduction.

IPL is a non-invasive, light-based technology that delivers controlled pulses of broad-spectrum light into the skin. Unlike a laser, which typically uses one concentrated wavelength, IPL uses filtered ranges of light selected according to:

  • The treatment goal
  • Your skin type
  • Your hair characteristics
  • The treatment area
  • The device being used
  • Your individual suitability

Depending on the treatment selected, IPL may help improve the visible appearance of:

  • Acne-prone skin
  • Facial redness
  • Visible superficial facial vessels
  • Poikiloderma of Civatte
  • Sun-related pigmentation
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Visible signs of photoaging
  • Unwanted hair

Every IPL service begins with a professional consultation and suitability assessment.

Treatments

Our IPL Services

Customized light-based treatments for skin concerns and long-term hair reduction.

IPL for Acne-Prone Skin

IPL may be used as a cosmetic treatment to improve the visible appearance of selected types of mild to moderate acne-prone skin. Depending on your skin condition and the device protocol, treatment may help:

  • Reduce the visible appearance of inflammatory blemishes
  • Support a clearer-looking complexion
  • Reduce temporary redness associated with breakouts
  • Improve uneven-looking skin tone
  • Complement an appropriate skincare routine
IPL does not cure acne. Clients with severe, painful, cystic, infected, rapidly worsening, or persistent acne may be referred to a physician, nurse practitioner, or dermatologist before treatment. Treatment may also be postponed where there is active infection, open skin, significant inflammation, or another contraindication.

IPL for Visible Facial Vessels

IPL may help improve the visible appearance of selected superficial facial vessels and diffuse redness. This treatment may be suitable for clients concerned about:

  • Visible facial capillaries
  • Small superficial vascular irregularities
  • Diffuse redness
  • Uneven red skin tone
The term "broken capillaries" is commonly used, although visible superficial facial vessels is more accurate professional terminology. IPL is a cosmetic procedure and does not treat underlying circulatory or vascular disease. Large, painful, raised, unexplained, rapidly changing, or medically concerning vascular lesions require assessment by an appropriate healthcare professional.

IPL for Rosacea-Related Redness

IPL may improve the visible appearance of persistent redness and selected superficial vessels associated with rosacea. This service is best described as IPL for the Cosmetic Improvement of Rosacea-Related Redness.

Rosacea is a chronic medical skin condition. IPL does not diagnose or cure rosacea. Because heat and light may aggravate highly reactive or inflamed skin, treatment suitability must be assessed carefully. Treatment may be postponed if you have an active rosacea flare, significant swelling, active inflammation, open or compromised skin, eye involvement, active infection, or unexplained facial changes. Clients with undiagnosed, severe, or medically concerning symptoms may be referred to a physician, nurse practitioner, or dermatologist.

IPL for Poikiloderma of Civatte

Poikiloderma of Civatte commonly affects the sides of the neck and upper chest. It may appear as a combination of:

  • Mottled pigmentation
  • Persistent redness
  • Visible superficial vessels
  • Sun-related skin changes

IPL may improve the visible colour irregularities associated with Poikiloderma of Civatte in appropriately selected clients. Because the skin of the neck and chest may respond differently from facial skin, treatment may require:

  • Conservative settings
  • Careful patch testing
  • Appropriate cooling
  • Close monitoring
  • Customized treatment planning
Any changing, raised, bleeding, irregular, or unexplained lesion should be assessed by an appropriate healthcare professional before cosmetic treatment.

IPL Hair Reduction

IPL hair reduction uses controlled light energy to target melanin within suitable hair follicles. The absorbed light is converted into heat, which may reduce the follicle's ability to produce future hair growth.

IPL hair reduction may provide:

  • Progressive reduction in visible hair
  • Finer or lighter regrowth
  • Slower regrowth
  • Reduced frequency of shaving
  • Reduced dependence on temporary hair-removal methods
The appropriate term is hair reduction or long-term hair reduction, rather than guaranteed permanent hair removal. Multiple treatments are usually required because IPL is most effective when suitable hairs are in an active growth phase. Maintenance sessions may also be recommended. IPL is generally less effective on white hair, grey hair, very light blonde hair, some red hair, and hair with limited pigment. Treatment suitability for darker skin types depends on the device, filtering system, cooling technology, treatment settings, and practitioner expertise.

IPL Photorejuvenation

IPL photorejuvenation is a cosmetic treatment designed to improve visible skin changes associated with sun exposure and photoaging. It may help improve the appearance of:

  • Freckles
  • Selected superficial brown spots
  • Uneven pigmentation
  • Diffuse redness
  • Visible facial vessels
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Dull-looking skin
  • Photoaged skin
IPL photorejuvenation does not reverse ageing or guarantee permanent removal of pigmentation. Suspicious pigmented lesions cannot be treated cosmetically. Any lesion that is changing, irregular, raised, painful, bleeding, or otherwise concerning should be assessed by an appropriate regulated healthcare professional before IPL treatment.
