Kosmetae Academy was established in 1989, launching the Aesthetics industry in the Fraser Valley. Kristina Norgren, the founder and President of Kosmetae Academy, quickly set the bar for standards in education and was immediately recognized for contributions to the cosmetology community. Under the vision and leadership of Ms. Norgren, the alumni have set standards of quality and excellence within British Columbia and beyond. They are known for their European standard of training and are pursued by spas and salons across North America.
In 1996, Kosmetae was invited to present seminars in Hunan Province, China, which we accepted. Attending those conferences were several representatives of the University and a Plastic Surgeon. We were honoured indeed by their presence and cherish the many fine memories that we have of this trip.
Kosmetae Academy was one of the first private schools to be accredited in the year 2000. We are also a Designated Learning Institute (DLI) with an Education Quality Assurance (EQA) designation. Our dedicated Instructors maintain their professional excellence by attending national and international conferences and continually update their curriculum with new information, ensuring that their students receive training in the latest techniques. Kosmetae’s quality of education was acknowledged in 2004 with its first Business Excellence Nomination.
The detailed instruction given to students provides a competitive edge which was showcased at the BC Skills Competition in 2006, when four students from Kosmetae Academy competed and brought back twelve medals, including a gold for Aesthetics and a gold for Nail Technology!
In 2007 Kosmetae Academy was accredited by the International Therapy Educational Council, ITEC, providing graduates the opportunity to work in over thirty countries. In August of 2013, during an ITEC qualifying examination, the international examiner was very impressed by the quality of work that was presented by Kosmetae students, stating that it was superior to that which she had experienced in other schools in Canada and globally. This quality of education was again acknowledged by a Business Excellence Nomination in 2013.
Kosmetae's student body includes young men and women who are beginning their careers as well as those who have chosen to pursue a new career. Many of our students found learning easy while some had to overcome the challenge of a learning disability or had to contend with English as a second language; they have all been successful. We are proud that our students have established careers in prestigious spas, salons, on cruise lines, and as entrepreneurs.
